Collaborating with pediatricians, other primary care physicians and with non medical psychotherapists
Although some primary care doctors feel relatively comfortable in diagnosing and treating psychiatric problems, many acknowledge feeling undertrained to do so. Many would like assistance from a psychiatrist, especially for complex disorders, for those who have failed treatment, and for second opinions. When appropriate, Dr. Linet is willing to see patients for a consultation with the possibility of referring the patient back to the primary care doctor for continuing follow-up care.
In addition, some patients are already in treatment with a non-medical therapist such as a psychologist or a psychiatric social worker. Dr. Linet enjoys working with other professionals and firmly believes it is important for psychiatrists to provide feedback to the referring professional.
Such collaboration between the psychiatrist and the referring professional can be a cost-saving means of obtaining the benefit of a psychiatrist's expertise.
